Refugee Week 2004
The 'Escape to Safety' exhibition was too large to fit into
John Frost Square and was cancelled at the last minute. Fortunately
it was able to go to the Gwent Police open day where group
members felt that it worked better than ever could have done
on John Frost Square.

Exhibition 'Escape to Safety' Gwent Police Open Day 12pm -
5pm Entrance Free! Amongst the many stalls and exhibits at
the Gwent Police open day, a most colouful trailer attracted
over five hundred people to pass through. Her they saw and
heard some of the experiences that refugees have ordealed.
Given small CD walkmans, the curious listened to stories of
the awful situations people have fled from, the challenging
transition and the reception they received in Britain.
The exhibition is travelling all around the UK and had also
appeared in Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham as part of the Refugee
Awareness week. It provides an opportunity to hear the refugees
true experiences and also challenges the myths that the media
have used to fuel xenophobia.
With film projections on the walls and life like props throughout
the trailer, the visitors got a feel for what intense situations
refugees go through. Some of the children found it a little
scarey and many of the adults appreciated the size and how
informative the exhibition is. If you visited the exhibition,
why not contact us and let us know what you think about it.

The Globalicious food event was good and was an opportunity
for Liz Brady to show a video of interviews that she had made
with refugees. Local Assembly Member Rosemary Butler was in
attendance. All members appreciated her presence. Glenys thanks
all.
