> June '06 - Refugee Week 2006

> December '05 - Raising money
to support 'Asylum Justice'
Asylum Justice is a movement to give asylum seekers the access
to justice and basic legal support that they deserve. A unique
project is starting in Wales and the people of Newport are
helping to bring the benefits to their city. Click here

September '05 - Allotment project receives boost
The group's allotment will soon be even better. Thanks to
a grant to the Wales Churches Fund we have £400 to invest
in a secure shed and additional tools.
The allotment is open 2 times a week and is popular both
for our volunteers and members of the refugee and asylum seeker

> Late Summer '05 - Funding for
community education project
The
group has recently been given a grant to run a short community
education as part of the Sign Up Now campaign. This grant
will allow us to create a newsletter about English courses
for asylum seekers and refugees in Newport and also run some
taster sessions.

> 18th June '05- Light in Shadow
Digital Film & Photography Show
A
showcase of original digital media from 5 photographers and
5 film makers based in Newport, including images from Middle
East, Africa, China and Kosovo and stories contrasting experiences
of asylum seekers & refugees in UK. The event is followed
by a discussion with film makers and photographers.

> Thurs 23 June '05- Safe: A Haven
for World Music'
A
free evening of World Music, featuring DJ AndyRoberts from
BBC Wales Jazzconnections, The Shelleys, Yva & Melia (R'n'b/
French), Batatan samba band and Kongo One Band (African band).
> 20-24 June '05 - Art Exhibition & Workshops Enterprising
Art
A display of artwork by refugees and asylum seekers and the
launch of SEWREC's Paintback! educational project on Friday
24th. This project supported by Enterprising Art
