Music

Music

.

To learn, play and perform music by singing or playing musical instruments
provided by the support group or volunteers

Music is a wonderful way for people to share their experiences such as anxiety and celebration. It also introduces us to the multi-cultural contribution that people bring to the Drop-In sessions. One of our visitors has also said that it helps her a great deal with her English; as she learns the words it gives her more confidence in speaking and singing.

Instruments

Presently one of our volunteers brings along a guitar and there has also been a guitar contributed.  Lottery funding has also provided a keyboard with a microphone facility which the children especially enjoy sitting around and playing tunes on.  If you have any musical talents or instruments you would like to contribute, please get in touch through our contact page.

Singing

Some of the visitors are now singing songs brought by a volunteer. These are songs about freedom, friendship and celebrating creation. A visitor from Angola will be sharing some songs from her home country which will be written into music and performed at the forthcoming Globalicious event on the 19th of July. The children are especially excited about playing music and it provides a lovely lovely atmosphere.  A song book is also being compiled.  If you are a visitor and you would like to contribute some songs from your own country let us know at the Drop In or tell us through the contact page.

Song Writing

Another ambition is to write songs based on Refugees experiences.. This will take sometime to compile and put to music. If you have any stories you would like to share and put to music, please feel free to approach and share them with the Visitors Drop In Centre support workers.

Recording

Recently one of our visitors visited NASH, Newport Action for Single Homeless resource centre in Pill, Newport. There she was shown a recording facility which is made available for vulnerable people in the community. Once a reportoire of songs is compiled, a CD will be produced.

Performance
Presently the group is compiling and rehersing music.   This will be performed at the forthcoming Globalicious event 19th of June at the Newport Salvation Army.

" This is a great atmosphere" Nick an arts development worker.
